Outreach
TexNet Outreach Initiatives and Events
TexNet partners with stakeholders to advance earthquake awareness, resilience, and safety across Texas through education and collaboration.

CAST Conferences
TexNet participates in the Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching (CAST), a statewide event organized by the Science Teachers Association of Texas (STAT) for middle and high school science educators.
At CAST2018, TexNet presented the Texas Statewide Earthquake Monitoring and Research Program.
At CAST2025, TexNet will introduce attendees to the online TexNet Earthquake Catalog, share case histories of seismicity in Texas, and discuss the current distribution of seismic activity across the state.

2025 Energy Elevated Technology Showcase
TexNet presented at the TXOGA 2025 Energy Elevated Technology Showcase in Houston, Texas. The TXOGA Showcase provided an opportunity to connect with industry leaders, introduce TexNet web tools for safer energy operations and explore ways science and industry can work together to benefit communities across Texas.

Earthquake Science for Texas High School Students
In May 2025, TexNet visited Legacy High School in Midland, Texas, reaching nearly 200 students through an interactive lecture on Texas seismicity, hands-on learning with a mock seismic station, and discussions on earthquake safety and careers in seismology.

STEM Events
In April 2025, TexNet participated in the Month of the Military Child Earth Festival in Fort Cavazos, leading interactive, hands-on earthquake science activities for students in grades 4-12. Through engaging demonstrations, this STEM event helped make earth sciences more accessible and inspiring for diverse military families, fostering early interest in the field among young learners.

Global Earthquake Preparedness Drill
TexNet team, along with other 57,214,497 participants registered worldwide, took part in the 2024 Great ShakeOut Earthquake Preparedness Drill by following the essential earthquake safety protocol: Drop, Cover, and Hold.
